Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi is one of the traditional electronics departments, started in 1975. Kochi, a city known for its pulsating life and commencing of the state of Kerala is home to this constituent department of CUSAT and providing electronics education and research input to the nation for nearly half a century. Currently, it has 7 courses at 4 different levels of-degree, relevant fields of specialization that enhance courses such as VLSI Design, Advanced Communication Technology and Defence Technology are also covered. The faculty of the department has eight members which provide necessary and close attention on its students for quality education. The co-educational institute is recognised by the AICTE, hence is capability of establishing high standard education within the institute.

The Department of Electronics launched a total of 7 courses to facilitate semester 3 of the three-year B.Tech programme as well as the two-year M.Tech programme in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Such education enrolment includes undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degree programmes offered full time. The B.Tech programme in VLSI Design and Technology is most popular with the intake of 60 students while M.Tech programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering, VLSI Design and Advanced Communication Technology has intake capacity of 27, 18 and 12 respectively. The department also offers 25 seat M.Sc Electronics Science, M.Tech Defence Technology and Ph.D Electronics.
