Department for Instrumentation Science, Savitribai Phule Pune University, was established in 1991 and is one of the leading constituent colleges of the Maharashtra offering the degree of Instrumentation Science. This department located on Ganeshkhind Road is committed to taking forward the subject of instrumentation science. With a focus on postgraduate and doctoral studies, the department offers two programmes, M.Sc. Instrumentation Science and Ph.D. Instrumentation Science. 

It a small functional department with a faculty of only three members, assuring high-caliber personalised teaching and guidance to the students. Many facilities are in place at the Department of Instrumentation Science to improve the learning process of students. The library of the department contains stock of 600 books belongs to physical science and instrumentations which offers a good context for research. More and more reference books are also being planned to be added to the existing collection of the library. In addition, students and faculty jurisdiction as the Jaykar library of the university which provides diverse related information. The department also provides well-equipped laboratories, which afford students practical experiences on state of the art instruments. The full-time courses offered by the Department for Instrumentation Science is two, aimed at different level of academic achievement. The M.Sc. Instrumentation Science is a course done over two years with an intake capacity of 45 students for each year to offer postgraduate training in the field. For those who seek to further develop the theory and practice of instrumentation science and contribute new ideas for research, the Department provides graduate education in Ph.D Instrumentation Science and takes six years usually. Through this structure, students can easily extend their postgraduate studies at this department in other to undertake doctoral research in a controlled environment.
