Department of Law, School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir Srinagar, set up in the year 2011 is one of the premier constituent college specially catering to the cause of legal education. Situated in Tulmulla, Ganderbal, this co-educational institute has been building professionals in the sphere of law for over 10 years. The department; accredited by Bar Council of India (BCI); provides three broad courses of law education viz., undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies. The department is enough strong because of 14 experienced educators in the faculty who provide students with the most comprehensive learning environment.
The Department of Law, School of Legal Studies, boasts itself with part offers of sophisticated learning tools and equipment to its students. A resourceful college library is available, where legal documents, books and other documents are within the reach of its clients. For practical training there is a moot court facility to enable students to practice advocacy by arguing out their cases inside a mock court. The department also has well equipped, creatively designed class rooms, with any necessity advisable for teaching and learning. Full time courses available for law students in the Department of Law are very diverse depending with the level of legal education. The flagship programme is the Five Year Integrated BA LLB for which the college has got the permission for an intake of sixty students. Besides, for aspirational lawyers who want to acquire more in-depth legal knowledge the department provides two years LLM programme. Existing and prospective legal researchers, writers or faculty members can obtain the Ph.D. in Law which takes six years to complete and enhances the growth of the discipline. All these programmes are intended to give the students a rounded and sound knowledge in law with emphasis on theoretical knowledge as well as skills.
This is because the Department of Law select only the most deserving students via merit hence making the admission channels highly competitive. Meanwhile, the BA LLB programme is through the CUCET which is a common entrance test for admission in various central universities in the country based on the candidate’s ability for study in the law faculty. Likewise, the admissions to the LLM programme are also carried through the CUCET while the admission standards for this course are also quite high.

The department is an institution for undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Central University of Kashmir, Srinagar, where only a strict and merit-based selection process has been adopted for students in law studies. Being the first national law school to start, it offers its law education from the undergraduate to doctoral levels under the quality scrutiny of the Bar Council of India.
The entire admission process of the Department of Law programs takes place through Central Universities Common Entrance Test. The CUCET is now simply referred to as CUET or Common University Entrance Test. The test at the national level ensures that only the most deserving candidates gain admission. The CUET admits students based on undergraduate (CUET UG) and postgraduate (CUET PG) categories separately.
Both tests will be held online. The eligibility criteria differ according to the course. For the undergraduate BA LLB course, the candidate must have passed 10+2 from a recognized board. For the LLM course, a bachelor's degree in law is required. Doctoral aspirants must have a master's degree in law or any other related field.
Application process
All the programmes offered at the Department of Law, School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir are applied through the following procedure:
1. Get registered for the respective CUET exam (UG or PG) through the website of the National Testing Agency.
2. Fill the CUET application form and enter all personal and academic details required.
3. Pay the prescribed application fee through the NTA.
4. Fill out the CUET application and choose Central University of Kashmir and the preferred law course.
5. Take the CUET exam on the scheduled date.
6. If a candidate has qualified, after the declaration of CUET results, they might have to go through the admission procedure of Central University of Kashmir.
7. The candidates shortlisted might have to attend counseling sessions or interviews conducted by the university.
8. The final selection would depend on the CUET score and any further rounds conducted by the university.

Degree wise Admission Process
BA LLB The flagship programme for the department has been the integrated five-year programme BA LLB. The course for the said programmes is taken from the CUET UG exams. As it has already attained the sanctioned student intake, students admitted under it is 60 students. However, only applicants with satisfactory grades in CUET UG examinations will be entitled to enter it.
LLM: Admission to the two-year postgraduate LLM programme is done through CUET PG. This program is offered to the law graduates with a desire to specialize in some fields of law or for the sake of pursuing academic careers. The exact number of seats might be different; the aspirants should refer to the official website for updated information.
Ph.D. Law: One can also get admission through the CUET PG for doctoral law. There are vacancies along with eligible supervisors. This programme is best suited to those who aspire to contribute in legal research as well as academic. The minimum duration of Ph.D. course is six years.
