Dhemaji College was established in the year 1965 and is one of the premier institutions of higher education in Dhemaji, Assam. This co-educational affiliated college, accredited by NAAC, provides a range of undergraduate courses, and the sprawling 9.809 acre campus has a total of 1,099 students, consisting of 53% male students and 47% female students. It has a dedicated faculty consisting of 53 members. It offers 18 courses in 6 degree programmes, specialised in arts and sciences. 

Dhemaji College is dedicated to creating a comprehensive learning environment. There are well-equipped facilities on campus and separate hostels for boys and girls. One boys' hostel inside the college campus and one girls' hostel in three blocks. Both the hostels are managed by superintendents and student prefects with many mess committees working on no-profit, no-loss bases. The college library is a treasure-house of knowledge having more than 14,580 books, 390 bound periodicals, and 18 journals. 

It has some specialised collections on the Gandhi Corner, Human Rights Corner, and Ambedkar Study Corner, being appealed to by the students of varied interests. A total of 18 courses are offered by the college, which also includes full-time under graduation programmes in both Arts and Science streams. The overall courses are headed by the largest course in the college, namely Bachelor of Arts (BA), with 300 seats. The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) programme has 120 seats. The college further provides specialised courses in Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) with 20 seats, whereas the Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) has 40 seats. 

The admission process to this college is more like a meritocracy. Admission to the college is determined by academic performance in the qualifying examinations. The college undertakes the admission process in a transparent manner to provide equal chances to any eligible student seeking admissions.
