Dr. Ambedkar College of Law, Mumbai, was started in the year 1945 as a premier institution with the objective of delivering legal education. The affiliated college at Wadala has been shaping legal minds for over seven decades. The Bar Council of India oversees the approval of the programmes offered to aspiring legal professionals by this institution. With a total enrolment of 687 students and a faculty strength of 15, the ambience of Dr. Ambedkar College of Law is that of a focused learning environment. 

Dr. Ambedkar College of Law has many facilities that help in improving the learning environment of its students. The library is one of the strong pillars in terms of academic resources. Its vast collection contains more than fifty thousand classical and modern books. At the national and international levels, there exist many journals and periodicals to which the institution subscribes and allows the students to access a lot of legal literature. One of the special features of the library is the open access system that aids easy access to the large collection available to the students. The moot court facility helps aspiring litigators gain practical experience in courtroom procedures and legal argumentation. The Dr. Ambedkar College of Law runs a total of four courses, and all of them are full-time. These include the three-year LLB programmes, a one-year PGD in Labour Laws and Labour Welfare, and a one-year Diploma in Taxation Laws and Labour Laws and Labour Welfare.

Dr. Ambedkar College of Law,  The admission process designed at selects capable, motivated candidates with a view toward the various available programs. On the LLB course, as well, such candidates are sought and accepted solely on the basis of performances in the state-level examination-conducted Maharashtra Common Entrance Test called MHCET Law-for admissions to Law courses in the state of Maharashtra.

The academic year usually starts in August-September, and the admission process begins a few months before that.

Eligibility criteria differ from course to course. For example, for the LLB course, students need to have completed 10+2 from a known board of education. Other specific requirements such as marks in relevant qualifying examinations may be required, and it can only be confirmed by contacting the college directly.

Application Process

The application procedure for Dr. Ambedkar College of Law, Mumbai varies with the program:

LLB Program:

  1. Get registered and appear for MHCET Law conducted by state of Maharashtra
  2. After announcement of MHCET Law, eligible candidates can apply to Dr. Ambedkar College of Law.
  3. Complete the application form as available on college website or pick up from the Admission Office of college.
  4. The whole application form and all documents and application fee should be submitted
  5. Document verification and counseling would be done, if selected.
  6. Final admission is made based on the score of the MHCET Law and availability of seats.

For PGD and Diploma programs

  1. Check the college website or visit the admission office to know about the announcement of the application
  2. Application should be made either online or college admission office.
  3. Fill up the application form completely and provide all the details required along with all other documents specified.
  4. Along with the application fee, submit a fully filled application form.
  5. The college may have a separate selection process. In some cases, the writing test and interview shall be conducted for short-listing the candidate.
  6. Final selection is made based on the background of the student's academic record and the performance of the candidates in the selection process.

H2 Degree-wise Admission Process

LLB: The three-year LLB program is the flagship course at Dr. Ambedkar College of Law. Admission to this program is based on the candidate's performance in the MHCET Law examination. The college has an approved intake of 320 seats for the LLB program. Eligible candidates must have completed their bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

PGD in Labor Laws and Labor Welfare: It is a one-year postgraduate diploma program; it deals with specific knowledge in labor laws and welfare. The college offers 120 seats for this course. The admission criteria generally require a bachelor's degree, preferably in the field of law or something related. Admission procedures vary, and one should directly contact the respective college.

Diploma in Taxation Laws: This one-year diploma program is offered to students who have an interest in taxation laws. There are 120 seats in this course at the college. Usually, the basic eligibility criteria include a bachelor's degree. In general, priority is given to those students with a background in commerce, economics, or law.

Diploma in Labour Laws and Labour Welfare: This is yet another yearlong diploma course from the college. The intake for this course is 120 seats. It is best suited for candidates looking forward to specializing in labor laws and welfare practices. Admission is generally on the basis of a bachelor's degree from any stream.
