Dr. Birinchi Kumar Barooah College, Puranigudam, is a co-educational college. It was established in 1967 by the people of Nagaon, Assam. It is a very wide-ranging affiliated college with undergraduate courses in probably every stream out there. This college has an overall land area of 2.2 acres, with an overall student body of 1,508 and a teaching staff strength of 42 member's, featuring a multi-dimensional education system, offering 17 diverse subject courses for learning, belonging to 6 distinct degree programs, of which 498 males and 508 females overall strength at the under-graduate level is ensured for equal participation.

The institution is dedicated to providing students a suitable learning environment, offering a bunch of facilities. It has a well-stocked library with almost ten thousand volumes of texts and reference books, subscribed to national and regional newspapers, journals, and periodicals. The students are allowed to borrow books with them for a period of 15 days to infuse in them the reading and research habits. Some of the facilities located on campus are well-equipped labs for practical learning, an auditorium for college functions and seminars, and a gymnasium for physical fitness. There is also a girl's hostel accommodating 22 inmates, while a proposal for its expansion is under pipeline.
