Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Kolhapur, was established in the year 1989 and remains one of the oldest and largest medical colleges in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. It is a constituent college approved by the National Medical Commission and has 174 faculty members, offering a wide range of quality education in streams of Medical programmes, specifically 20 courses and 4 degree programs. 

Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College is built with numerous facilities, thereby providing an excellent learning atmosphere and a healthy ambience for the all-round development of students. Inside the campus, there are separate boys' and girls' hostels that provide comfortable accommodation to students who come from out-of-town. A fully-supplied health centre with first-aid facilities is available on the campus to meet recurrent medical needs. The ultra-modern gym in the college will help students oriented towards keeping their bodies fit. The library is the knowledge centre and has an extensive collection of medical literature and research materials. The infrastructure for information technology is well-maintained and provides students with the latest technology for their studies. There is a cafeteria that provides a resting and refreshment area, an auditorium where events and seminars may be held, and advanced laboratories that allow students hands-on learning experiences, which actually form the bedrock of medical education.

Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College offers a variety of medical courses, with both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels aided to. There are 20 courses offered by the institute in full-time programmes across different specialisations in medicine. The MBBS flagship course; postgraduate courses such as MD and MS. The college also offers M.Sc programmes in Medical Biochemistry and Medical Anatomy. 

Admission is based on merit and the admission process of Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College is structured. Admissions to MBBS are based on the ranking in NEET UG. Candidates, to whom admission is desired, need to clear this national level examination. The admitting students for the postgraduate programmes, including MD and MS courses in the institution, are based on the results in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate, NEET PG exam. Admission is made on a meritorious basis to these postgraduate programmes.
