Dr NGP College of Education, Coimbatore: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

Dr. NGP College of Education, a self-financing teacher training institution, was founded in 2005 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Being an affiliated college in Kovai Estate, Kalapatti Road, it is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The institute campus occupies an area of 5.1 acres and provides co-education facility for students who aspire to become teachers. The total number of students are 194 and total number of faculty members are 17 therefore, has a small intake capacity. At the moment, the college only has one programme of study, the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) specialising in training teachers.

A number of amenities exist within Dr. NGP College of Education, aimed at promoting improved learning and all round development of students. The campus contains physical facilities of boys’ hostel and girls’ hostel so that students would be provided family like environment and security ensured by wardens of hostels. For all medical requirements, there is a Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital which is a multi-disciplinary super-specialty care hospital. The college does provide for athletic, recreational and exercise facility including a gym for students’ physical health and fitness. The college serves as a knowledge centre and possesses a collection of 12000, 41 educational journals and magazines and other facility like computer and internet connection, DELNET facilities also. For its support to academic activities, the college offers IT facility and well-equipped laboratories for its students.

Dr. NGP College of Education offers B.Ed course approved with an intake capacity of 100 students. This is a two-year full-time course that helps student to pave way for successful progression into the teaching profession. The programme aims at preparing teachers to meet the demands of the modern school environment, by providing the would-be teachers with the right skills and knowledge as well as teaching practice. Although the college offers only this one degree programme, this shows its commitment to quality in offering teacher training education.

The selection criteria for students across various courses offered at Dr. NGP College of Education are based on merit arising from the marks attained in the qualifying examination and /or entrance examination. The admission policies of this college are similar to those of admission policies of state government, Union Territory administration, and affiliation university. The college is closely associated with its Alumni Association which was formed in the session 2006-07, and is useful in the over-all functioning of the college.
