Durgapur Government College (DGC) was established in the year 1970. It is situated at one of the prime locations in the city of Durgapur in the state of West Bengal. A large number of affiliated colleges spread over 25-acre land grant undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various disciplines. With a total student strength of 1,898 and 76 teaching staff, DGC is among the best colleges providing value-based education. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation prove how the college maintains high academic order.
DGC has a range of facilities for students to support and develop the learning process. The DGC library has 517 square meters and about 80,000 volumes enlisted in the books, including a computer laboratory fully equipped with modern facilities, separate departmental libraries for specialised access, and a well-devised infrastructure for IT. There are facilities available in DGC for cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, and athletics, besides the indoor games of table tennis, chess, and carom. The college also houses a gymnasium that can be used by male and female students in their bid to keep their bodies healthy and fit while pursuing academics at the institution.
The total number of courses taught is 32, spread over 7 degree programs in a very comprehensive way. This includes full-time undergraduate programs in Arts, Science, and Commerce and also postgraduate courses in selected areas. This is quite evinced by the specialisation that DGC offers, from traditional subjects in Bengali, English, and Physics to the more specialised fields of Geology and Conservation Biology.

The classrooms and labs work fine, but some of the facilities feel outdated and could use modernization. The library is okay but gets crowded during busy times. Overall, while the basics are there, better maintenance and upgrades would make a big difference.
Infrastructure was pretty good. Classes were very much regular. Practical labs were well equipped. We have a central library with huge book collection. We have a library in our department too with only Geology books. The departmental library was pretty good. The book issue procedure was pretty simple. We faced no problem.
