Durgapur Institute of Legal Studies was instituted in the year 2006 to be at par with some of the prime legal institutes in Durgapur. This affiliated college has approval from the Bar Council of India and imparts specialized legal studies on its 3-acre campus. Having a total student body of 726 and a faculty strength of 18, DILS assures its students a focused learning environment to be at par with aspiring legal professionals. The courses run by the institute are a 3-year LLB (Hons) with an intake capacity of 120 students and a 5-year integrated programme, BA LLB (Hons), again with an enrolment capacity of 120 students. It clearly and truly reflects the commitment and dedication of the authorities towards the imparting of quality legal education.

DILS has a plethora of facilities to back up the academic and personal growth of the students. There are separate hostels for boys and girls within the campus, providing a secure stay to outstation students. The library is a hub of legal research, well-equipped with an excellent stock of national and international legal literature. It contains the latest versions of All India Reporter and other journals. Sports facilities are available for outdoor games such as cricket, football, and basketball, and for indoor games like table tennis, chess, and carom. Continuation of the facilities for games proves that the institutional agenda visualizes commitment toward all-round development. The institute has also provided state-of-the-art, well-furnished computer labs and campus-wide Wi-Fi connectivity in order to bridge the digital divide and to make digital resources available to students, which go indivisibly with modern legal education.

The academic courses offered by the institute aim at fulfilling the various needs of seekers of legal education. At present, two full-time courses are offered: the 3-year LLB (Hons) and the 5-year integrated BA LLB (Hons) program. Both the courses have a sanctioned intake of 120 seats each, aggregating to 240 across these two programs. 

The admission procedure has been through common methods for all law schools would be academic performance in qualifying examinations and entrance tests or interviews in some.
