Durgapur Polytechnic College, established in 2012, has been one of the prime technical institutions in Durgapur, West Bengal. It is a co-ed institution with a campus area of 5 acres and runs the Diploma Course in different branches of engineering. The college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, and it has a total student enrolment of 469 with a faculty strength of 47. Durgapur Polytechnic College offers four diploma courses in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Mining Engineering with three years of duration each. The commitment of the institution towards technical education is very visible in terms of its modern facilities and curriculum in line with industry demand.

Durgapur Polytechnic College offers four full-time diploma courses in engineering.

The total intake of students in all programs in the college is 300. Out of these, the highest intake is in the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with an intake of 120; the remaining three, viz. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mining Engineering, have 60 seats each. All the programs are full-time three-year courses designed to provide the students with a sound-based knowledge in their respective branches of engineering.

The admission to Durgapur Polytechnic College is primarily based on the Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics, West Bengal, JEXPO. The entrance examination is conducted by the West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development. Seventy-five percent of seats in each branch are allotted through JEXPO counselling, and the rest 25% is filled up directly by the college, strictly following the norms of AICTE and WBSCT & VE & SD. The aspiring student needs to look for JEXPO test dates—normally appearing during the first half of the calendar year—with results and counselling shortly thereafter.
