East West School of Architecture (EWSA) is one of the youngest architectural schools in Bangalore started in 2018. It is an affiliated college situated near BEL Layout, off Magadi Road and is approved by the Council of Architecture. EWSA has but one course, the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch), with a government-sanctioned capacity of 20 students. Situated on a very small land area of 20 acres, the institute has been offering its programme to only 58 students at the present time.
EWSA has various facilities with the intention of the improving the experience of students. The campus owns different hostels for boys and girls respectively to ensure the students live in comfortable and clean environment. The college library which is very well called the “The Bodhi Lounge,” has an adequate stock of printed and electronic material such as books and journals for reference only. It plays a role of a center where learning and research takes place and is useful for all learners and instructors. EWSA also cares for the physical health of student by providing them with both indoor and outdoor athletic amenities. Indoor facilities include table tennis, badminton, carom, chess, etc., whereas outdoor facilities are basketball ground, cricket ground, kho-kho, kabaddi, netball, throwball ground, etc.
The institute is mainly designed to promote architectural education and it only has one full time course which is the five years’ Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) programme. This approach directs all its resources as well as specialism toward ensuring delivery of quality education within the subject area of architecture.
Due to the nature of this institution as a national level institution, the main method of admitting students to East West School of Architecture is by sitting for an entrance examination. EWSA accepts scores from two key exams, that includes National Aptitude Test in Architecture ( NATA) that is being organized by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi, and the Joint Entrance Examination ( JEE Main). The essence of these exams is to determine the candidates’ ability and competencies that may be useful in architectural education. Candidates must have passed NATA to be considered for the admission to the first year of the B.Arch programme.
