The constituent college was established in 1996 by Assam University, specialising in education and research in the field of environment: Odum School of Environmental Sciences, Silchar, Assam. It has been grooming environmental leaders for posterity for more than two decades. This institute is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), besides offering a variety of specialised programmes in environmental sciences at postgraduate and doctoral levels. 

With a faculty strength of 11 dedicated professionals, the institution ensures personalised attention and quality education for its students. Among the courses is a two-year M.Sc. in Environmental Science, one-year M.Phil. in Environmental Science, a six year programme for Ph.D. in Environmental Science and a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism Management (PGDTM). The M.Sc. Environmental Science flagship course is operational with a built-up capacity of 48 seats, offering wider avenues for students to tread the postgraduate learning journey in this critically important subject area.
