The newly established Fisheries College and Research Institute Mayiladi was initiated in 2019 at Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu. Fisheries College and Research Institute is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University.The college is functioning under the administrative control of Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University. Located on a limited area of land of 3 acres, the institute mainly centers on fisheries sector specialty, namely education and research. 

The college has the maximum student strength equivalent to 20 and faculty of 6 which gives an optimum college size. At present, the institute offers only one program, Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc) and is a four year full time program that aims to develop sound specialists in the areas of fisheries and aquaculture.

The institute has all the of facilities that it needs to implement it educational activities. Over the years, students have been provided with different hostel for boys and girl to live comfortably while studying. The college library remains a valuable facility to point students and other readers in the direction of literature and research information on fisheries. State of the art laboratories meet the practical component of the program facilitating students to acquire practical skills in most areas of fisheries science. It also has a cafeteria where students and staff can get their meals with necessary nutrition values.

The Fisheries College and Research Institute, Mayiladi, currently offers one primary course: the Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc). Fisheries Science is a four-year full-time program designed to offer all-around education in fisheries science.
