Gandhi College of Education, Erode was started in 2006 and is situated in Sathyamangalam of Tamil Nadu; it is one of the emerging teacher training college in Tamil Nadu. A co-educational college affiliated to state board, this College is recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Located at a large plot of thirty acres, the college provides an appropriate environment for budding educator. Conducting the college with an authorized 15 faculty members and admitting students with a strength of 200 helps the college to give personalized attention to its students. The institution currently has two programs of education which has attempted to meet the increasing need for professional teachers in the market.
The college provides the following modern facilities with an aim of improving learning amongst the college students. The college boasts of a well stocked library that is stocked with over six thousand volumes of books and fifteen national and international journal subscriptions for convenience of B.Ed and research students. Modern well-equipped large labs give students practical experience and the chance to improve their practical skills. The institution has separated hostel for male and female student and has facilities for the physically challenged. To facilitate transport facilities, the college has established buses operating on routes of Puliampatti, Annur, Avinashi and Gobichettipalayam towns. Other facilities include, a canteen, a play ground, and clean and well spaced classrooms to ensure that the education is all rounded.
Gandhi College of Education currently offers two full-time courses: The required teaching qualification is a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and the other qualification is a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) . The B.Ed program has an approved intake capacity of one hundred admitted students and the D.El.Ed program has an admitted students intake capacity of fifty. They both take two years, and train students in educational theories as well as practice. From the above-discussed courses it is apparent that the college concern its self with teacher education in order to produce qualified educationists in the marketplace.
Admission procedure of Gandhi College of Education is based on merit list and reservation quota system followed in this state. In the case of the B.Ed program, they are admitted based on the marks obtained in Part III, and the optional subjects regarding the undergraduate course. The D.El.Ed program has also set up a similar admission policy where the merit system has been adopted with the consideration for marks acquired in the standardized examination.
