Gita Teachers Training College, Birbhum was started in the year 2014 as a co-educational institution to impart education and training to prospective teachers. The affiliated college at Suri in West Bengal's Birbhum district got affiliation and recognition from the National Council of Teacher Education. Admission procedures may differ according to policies of the current state government and university. The candidates must have completed their bachelor's degree or an equivalent course from any recognized university in order to apply for the B.Ed. course.

D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education): D.El.Ed has 50 seats under this category and it is also a2-year course. Admission is on merit just like that of B.Ed. After that, the candidates are evaluated as per their performance in the qualifying examination and/or an entrance test, according to the policy of the state government or UT Administration. Most eligibility criteria state that higher secondary education (10+2) must have been completed by the candidates from recognized Board.
