About Government Arts and Science College, Kozhikode
Government Arts and Science College Kozhikode is a well known institution of higher learning situated at Meenchanda, Kozhikode, Kerala state of the southern part of India opened in the same year of 1964. This affiliated college comes under a vast area of 20.15 acres of land and gets accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Altogether 2022 students and 95 faculties are currently studying and teaching in the college It provides 20 courses under 6 degrees. A high level of gender diversity is also characteristic of the institution: of the enrolled students, 79% are female, and 21% are male; it pays great attention to the development of undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
It is the policy of Government Arts and Science College Kozhikode to give student a balanced learning environment, enabling them to learn and develop in the facilities to their optimum potential. The campus has a library with 75000 printed books, 100, 000 e-books, 5000 electronic journals and newspapers options through INFLIBNET’s N-List facility. There are also great sports amenities and a gym for the sporty people to encourage health exercise. Accommodation The college also provides well equipped laboratory for practical experiences. Special emphasis is paid to the formation of IT infrastructure as students should be aware of the existing developments. Having cafeteria on campus means that students are able to get foods which are both healthy and cheap. The college possesses an auditorium where different events and seminars are held as well as facilitates the active college life. To cater for the female students who come from distant places a girls’ hostel has been provided to make them comfortable and secure.
The programme at the Government Arts and Science College, Kozhikode is rich and spreads across several departments. It offers 11 undergraduate programmes and 10 postgraduate programmes and has 20 courses. At the undergraduate level student are offered diverse BA programmes including Arabic History, Hindi, English, Malayalam, Economics and history among others. College also provide B.Com and B.Sc programmes in of Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology. For postgraduate level the college offers MA in Hindi, Malayalam, Economics, History, English, M.Com, M.Sc Physics and Statistics. All these courses are full time, regular programme meant for depth education in respective fields of study.
