Government Arts College Dharmapuri presently is one of the premier Institutions situated in the heart of Dharmapuri of Tamil Nadu established in the year 1965. NAAC accredited in 2003, this affiliated college has a 42 acre campus to its credit and plenty of potential. Currently, the GAC Dharmapuri has a student number of 5,948 and 78 members of faculties; it provides 75 courses under 11 degree programmes. Concerning gender composition, the college has more male students than female students, 62% male with 38% female in the undergraduate programmes, while, in postgraduate programmes, 62% are female students with 38% male students.

A variety of factors are offered to students to make their learning as effective as possible in Government Arts College college. The Escuela Técnica is a technical school that has a library that centralises and disseminates information while practical learning is done in departmental laboratories. Government Arts College Dharmapuri offers all sorts of courses within a broad range. It offers 45 undergraduate programmes, 19 postgraduate programmes, 9 M.Phil programmes and 5 PhD programmes. Approximately total student intake for all the courses offered is 5,224. Among the most sought after undergraduate courses are the BA in Tamil, English and History, Commerce, Business Administration and B.Sc Mathematics, Physics and Computes sciences. The college also offers post graduate program in different streams which includes MA, M.Com, and M.Sc streams at post graduate level. The college also offers M.Phil and Ph.D. for few fields for the students with research interlinkage.

The admission procedures of the GAC Dharmapuri are following the merit basis. For undergraduate programmes, it is common practice that admission is granted on the basis of the result of a secondary qualification examination, commonly called the ‘12th standard’ in India. In the admission of postgraduate programmes they look at the grades acquired in the related undergraduate programme. The college has used its policies under the reservation policies according to Tamil Nadu government.
