Government Arts College for Women, Pudukkottai (GACW) was set up in the year 1969. This is a women’s college situated in Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu which covers area of 14acres. GACW has 36 courses in 10 degree programmes for 4,064 students. The college offers many options for specialising in the Arts, Science and Commerce streams. Further, NAAC accredited the GACW and the focus of the college is to impart quality education to women because the college does not admit any male student in any of its programmes from undergraduate to postgraduate levels.
Government Arts College for Women provides rich reference information support for academic activities by having a comprehensive range of reference books, newspapers and magazines. Dean of students admits that GACW boasts of sophisticated IT facilities; student are well acquainted with emerging technologies. Campus resources include functional practical laboratories, an auditorium to accommodate events and seminars, and facilities for sports and fitness in order to enhance the physically as well as teamwork. Canteen services, convenience store and a part from that parking infrastructure also enhances the comfort of campus life. The college also has a well equipped gym where students are able to undertake some forms of exercise and body building as they balances on their learning and studying schedule.
GACW has various scholarships for students and is affiliated to flipped learning, CSWE and INQAAHE; it also has 24 undergraduate courses and 12 postgraduate courses including BBA, B.Com, BA History, B.Sc Botany. It admitted students totalling to a 3,833; of these 3,356 were undergraduate while 708 were post graduate. All programmes are day and regular, that offers students full time class room learning. There were 4,064 students graduating for the latest academic year in the college, reflecting the university’s quality academic offering and students’ performance.
Admission to GACW is organised based on merit, as regulated by the Tamil Nadu Government reservation policy. This help in creating leveller ground for all the qualified candidates. The college offers different courses through intake and enrolment for undergraduate degree programmes usually start soon after the release of 12th standard results; while postgraduate courses admission starts after the graduation results are released. On the exam dates, the college does not term specific date, it probably follows the university academic calendar in as much as it is affiliated to.
