Government Arts College, Melur started in the year 1969 is one of the largest colleges situated in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. This affiliated college with sixty acres of campus area has been educating society for more than fifty years. The college is NAAC accredited and offers 24 courses in 7 degree courses for a total student enrolment of 2649. The institution has fairness in the gender distribution of student enrolment; 1,604 female and 1,290 males respectively.
