Government Ayurved College and Hospital, Bilaspur, a renowned college, was established in 2012 to cater to the need for Ayurvedic education in Chhattisgarh, India. The affiliated college that is situated in Juna Bilaspur offers a quality educational program for traditional Indian medicine as it has CCIM affiliation. Having a total area space of approximately 5 acres, the college admits students of both sexes, which contributes to its multicultural atmosphere and policies. As of the total student population of 248 students and faculty of 19 teachers, the institute ensures a concentration environment. At the present time, only one degree is available in this college, BAMS, which clearly shows that the college is fully devoted to Ayurvedic education.
School facilities include a range of resources intended to complement the learning processes of the college students. The library as an enduring source of learning resources stores desirable reference books, national publications, newspapers, and e-resources. It has a carrying capacity of 50 students and also has an e-library to ensure that students and staff have relevant research facilities. This college boasts excellent facilities for the preparation of classical Ayurvedic medicines and for drug testing, which are fully equipped pharmacy and drug testing laboratories. For the physically challenged students, the institute provides separate accommodations for boys and girls, each having 40 and 60 seats, respectively. Other facilities on campus are sports facilities, an event and seminar venue, and a strong information and technology interface, making the educational facility all-rounded.
Government Ayurved College and Hospital, Bilaspur, aims at delivering the complete educational structure of Ayurved through its flagship programme, BAMS. This complete course takes six years and prepares students for traditional Indian healthcare occupations. The college has an approved intake capacity of 75 students per annum for BAMS courses to maintain quality and increase the intake due to increasing requirements for professionals in Ayurveda. Having its own exclusive focus, the institute can devote resources and faculty effort primarily to the provision of exceptional Ayurvedic education.
In the Government Ayurved College and Hospital, Bilaspur, admission to the BAMS programme is meritorious, and it goes through a systematic procedure. Students seeking admission into the college have to produce a National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) score, which is the only recognised entrance examination in the college. The Director of AYUSH is responsible for counselling for admissions against the NEET merit list. The eligibility criteria are the pass in the higher secondary exam of the Chhattisgarh government as well as any equivalent 10+2 examination with at least 50% marks in physics, chemistry, and biology.
Through this process, the college is confident that only students with a strong background in sciences will be admitted to handle Arusha’s future tough courses in Ayurvedic medicine. The college does not only offer educational services by providing facilities for the study of Ayurveda but also serves socially. The hospital has a number of amenities where students are exposed to hands-on experience in handling patents in realisation of the theory. The location of the institute in Bilaspur, a culturally rich city, has allowed students to study traditional medicine in a favourable environment. This increasing acceptance of Ayurveda makes graduates from Government Ayurved College and Hospital, Bilaspur, ready for the international market for other systems of medicine, that is, for practitioners of ASCM.
