Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, which was begun in 1991, is one of the prestigious college offering education in Ayurveda in Kerala, India. It is an affiliated college in Pariyaram, Kannur, In fact, the college occupies a 35-acre piece of land. Currently the institute teaches 7 courses in 4 programmes of study and focuses on different aspects of Ayurvedic system of medicine. The college wise employee in faculties is 51 and aims to provide the quality education in traditional Indian medicine. The institute has got the recognition from the Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM) which ensures that it provides quality education and training in Ayurveda and the research that goes on here.
The Government Ayurveda College has adopted a number of amenities that are intended to improve learning and teaching among the students. The library having an area of 2600 sq.Ft is located on the ground floor of A Block and has a seating capacity for 60 readers at a time. They have an impressive collection of books on Ayurveda and Modern Systems of medicine and General medicines through software package ‘Book Magic’. The college has provided different hostels for male and female students respectively.
The boys hostel has the capacity for 15 double rooms and accommodates 35 students in the mess while the girls hostel is three storied building and has 38 rooms and can accommodate 65 students in the mess. But all the facilities of the two hostels include computer rooms and recreational facilities. It also boasts of departmental laboratories, a health centre with, first-aid facilities, as well as well equipped IT facilities to enhance student’s academic experience.
The programmes offered in the Government Ayurveda College, Kannur total up to 7 courses all of which are on a full time basis. Hence, it offers one undergraduate course from the BAMS list and six postgraduate ones – MD and MS programs. These courses have an over all enrolment capacity of one hundred and thirteen students in the entire college. Degree wise Admission Process
BAMS: The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery program (BAMS) at Government Ayurveda College, Kannur ilffers 75 seats. Admission for this program is centered on the NEET score the candidate obtains. The course takes a minimum of 5.5 years, comprising one year of internship. Candidates must pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as main subjects to be eligible.
MD Kriya Sareera: The postgraduate program offers 9 seats, with admission provided on the basis of AIAPGET. A BAMS degree or an equivalent qualification recognized by the CCIM (Central Council of Indian Medicine) must be held by the candidates to be eligible for admission.
