Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Guwahati: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

The oldest Government Ayurvedic College of India is located at Guwahati which is established in 1948 and imparting education and health care through Ayurveda. This affiliated college is situated in Sundhabi, Jalukbari, Guwahati – Assam The college is approved by CCIM (Central Council for Indian Medicine). The institute has number of programs in Ayurvedic medicine and it has 3 degree in 7 courses offered by the it. The college has a strength of forty three teachers and offers quality educating at both the undergraduate and postgraduation grades. The following are the courses offered by our institution: Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, MD and MS in different fields of Ayurveda. The college has many resources to facilitate learning and development of the students, as well as their general welfare. 

A separate two-storeyed newly built library started in 2008 containing books, journals, and theses of both Ayurveda and modern medicinal system. The college has separate departmental laboratories to ensure the students have practical experience of what they are taught. Extra curriculum activities includes; The institution has sports facilities and a gym. The campus also includes an auditorium for receiving other activities and seminars, as well as for canteen for students and workers. For instance, the college has hostels for male and female students to enhance this cause because the college makes it mandatory for students who live in the hostels to pay for their accommodation. 

The total number of courses offered by Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Guwahati is total 7 in number which includes both UG and PG courses. The undergraduate degree is the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) while the postgraduate includes; the various MD & MS specializations. Every course and programme offered is on a full-time basis and take between 5.5 years (for BAMS) to 3 years (for postgraduate courses). The BAMS program so has the allowed intake for fifty seats which showed the institution’s approach to the quality education. However, the detailed data in terms of total number of graduates is not easily available; but the college is still a major force for providing quality education in the field of Ayurvedic medicine. 

In the following context, it need be pointed out that the admission in Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Guwahati is mostly done with reference to the entrance tests. With regard to the BAMS program, no specific detail of the admission process is given, but it may be assumed that somewhere there are entrance tests for the Ayurvedic courses at state or national level. For the postgraduate programs, admission into MD and MS courses offered, OJEE is responsible for conducting The All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET).
