Government College For Girls, Ludhiana was established under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), New Delhi in 1943. The college is a government institution situated in Ludhiana. It is affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh. The college offers education to students in various diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The courses consist of various degree programmes in the disciplines of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Commerce, Sciences, Computer Applications and Management & Business Administration.

The infrastructure of the college is quite old and needs renovation. The lecture halls are equipped with boards. The labs are not in good condition. The campus is spread over a large area. There are many playgrounds in the campus.
