Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar was established in 1969, and is a college serving students in Jammu, from Jammu and Kashmir. This affiliated college located in a sprawling 22.75 acre campus is a women’s only college with strong emphasis on quality education. The college is affiliated to the Karnataka State Council and recognised by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), and the college include many undergraduate courses. The institution comprises of a total enrolment of 5,961 students with a faculty of 69 making the student to teacher ratio which is highly effective in creating a one on one student compact. It currently provides 8 courses comprising of six degree programmes in arts, sciences, commerce, and computer application namely BCA, BBA, BCA, BBA, bsc agriculture and occasional vocational courses.
Government College for Women is well-endowed with modem facilities to reinforce its academic activities. The library equipped with more that 50,000 books, periodicals and journal is the knowledge centre for students. Various and well-equipped Laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Home Science, Food Science, Psychology, Geography, Statistics, Music and Biotech are available for the practical knowledge. The college also has well equipped computer facilities and internet connections thus put the student in track in advancement in Information Technology. Spacious air conditioned hall having a sitting capacity of 750 students is used for covering academic as well as other co-curricular activities. To enhance student’s comfort the college provides the following amenities; a canteen, ample parking space and transport means.
Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, provides all the usual undergraduate courses. The institution offers 8 full-time courses for its students which includes Ba, B.Sc (Medical and Non-Medical), B.Com, BCA and BBA. These programmes address different academic focuses and occupations planning.
Admission to the Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar is given based on merit/entrance test for admission to the under graduate programmes. As for the applicants, the results from the qualifying examinations or entrance tests are adopted as the basis of admission provided in the examination for each academic programme. The infrastructure of the college is good. College infrastructure consists of library,hostel,classrooms, gym,garden etc. The classrooms of the college are ok. Some are good and some need improvement. Some buildings need improvement.
College have all very good infrastructure ,providing all facilities of classrooms .College have very good laboratories for science students. Hostels have very good facilities. Generator system is present in hostel
Principal here is very efficient . Teachers here are more than happily willing to help when it comes to any problem be it related to studies or councelling or just a normal guidance. Infrastructure is good but it can be improved since infrastructure also plays an important role in education .
