Government College of Education, Raipur was established in the year 1956 and today stands among the prime institutions that impart education in teaching and training in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. This co-educational college affiliated with the university envisions to offer efficient teachers. The institution is NAAC accredited and NCTE approved, thus maintaining a high educational standard. Spread over a 32-acre campus, it offers 2 degree programmes in education with a total student enrolment of 387. With a faculty strength of 19, the college ensures that individual attention and quality instruction are provided to the aspiring teachers. 

The college has a wide array of facilities to enhance the learning experience of its students. There is a well-stocked library housing more than 18,000 books, thereby providing adequate resources for research and study. It has well-equipped laboratories, including science, mathematics, psychology, and computer laboratories, very essential in the development of instructional materials and practical skills. Female students can be accommodated in the 25-seater girl's hostel, which has 12 well-furnished rooms. The college offers two auditorium with a capacity of 200 each, quite ideal for the staging of cultural programs and other events of an academic nature. There is also a canteen meant to cater to the dietary needs of both students and staff. It has indoor and outdoor game facilities that promote a healthy and balanced outlook on education and physical fitness. The campus is Wi-Fi-enabled to ensure easy access to online resources for the students. Other facilities include a health centre with first-aid facilities, a stationery shop for photocopying services, and adequate parking space. 

The Government College of Education offers two full-time courses in Education in Raipur. The Bachelor of Education B.Ed has an intake capacity of 200 students, while that for the Master of Education M.Ed is 50 students. Both are two-year courses with the objective of producing competent teachers and educational leaders equipped with knowledge about the latest pedagogical trend.

The admission process to Government College of Education, Raipur is based on merit and governed by the rules and regulations framed by the state government, UT administration and the affiliated university. The admission to the B.Ed. programme shall be based on the marks in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. The case of M.Ed. programmes remains the same, where admission shall be made based on merit in the qualifying examination or an entrance test or any other selection process as prescribed by the authorities.
