Government College of Physical Education for Women, Dinhata was established in the year of 1985. This is a specialized institution in the field of physical education for women; this affiliated college works under the approval of NCTE. The institution is run on a compact 5-acre campus having 38 enrolled students and 5 faculty members. It offers only one professional degree course in B.P.Ed., thus showing its focused approach towards the aspect of sports and physical education.

The college has a number of facilities for all-round development. The library is well-stocked with 2,444 subject books, 297 story books, and 56 journals to meet the needs of the students for further study and knowledge. The physical education course includes practical training; the institute offers well-maintained sports facilities and a gym. The institution is equipped with a good IT infrastructure to make it comparable to the technology-driven world of today. There would be departmental laboratories for hands-on training, and a canteen that caters to food requirements of the students and staff in conformity with their individual needs. The B.P.Ed course in Government College of Physical Education for Women is a full-time three-year course. The aim of the course would be to provide the students with intensive knowledge and skills in physical education so that they can build their career as teachers, coaches, and sports managers.

Admission to the B.P.Ed course on merit basis, considering applicants only on the basis of their academic performance at the qualifying examination and their physical aptitude. Every new student shall be put through rigorous evaluation comprising a written test, assessment of sports proficiency, and a physical fitness test. Marks obtained at the qualifying examination shall also be considered by the college.
