The Government College of Teacher Education, Kozhikode (GCTE Kozhikode) is one of the premier institutions and future of education in India. This co-educational college was started in 1950 and the college is situated at Mananchira, Kozhikode, Kerala. GCTE Kozhikode is a affiliated college NACC and is also NAAC accredited as well as approved by NCTE. Situated on a campus area of 3.9 acres, the institute has enrolled 158 students in two teacher education programmes. This college is well known for its faculty strength of 10 teachers which will provide individual attention to quality education for all the would-be teachers.
Government College of Teacher Education Kozhikode has available different services to foster the learning environment for students. The college has residential facilities for boys and girls, likewise, these are at present employed as office spaces. Library is also situated on the ground floor and provides course-ware with the stocks of 18,669 books of which 1,097 are reference books and 7 journals. For teaching- learning, college has well furnished laboratory such as Language Laboratory, Computer Laboratory and Psychology Laboratory. Some of the conveniences include; wireless internet connection, an indoor facility for holding functions such as seminars, and a cafeteria. The college also values the physical aspect of the students and has provided sports floor and gym. The facilities in the school are consisting of two parts with the compound wall dividing the Government Model Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode, to share a playground.
The institute offers two full-time courses in education: Bachelors of education (B.ED) and Masters of education (M.ED). The B.Ed programme can take a maximum of one hundred students per intakes and the M.Ed programme can take fifty students per intakes. Each of them is intended to be studied over two years which allows receiving deep educational theory and practice. The total students’ enrolment agrees the intake capacity of 158 making the college popular and fully booked for the admission of students.
As mentioned above, admission for all the programmes offered in GCTE Kozhikode depends on the marks secured in the qualifying examination and/or the entrance examination. Regarding the B.Ed programme, the admissions are given as per policy framed by state government, UT Administration and this university. Likewise, the admission policy of the M. Ed. programme is equally merit-base and the programme conducts marks from the qualifying examination GATE score or any other entrance test within the government and university norms. Currently, the college’s vision is to strive for academic success and follows the set rules and regulation of the admission boards. It is however not clear about the scholarship details but since the college is under the government then they are most probably provide various forms of scholarships to interested students. GCTE Kozhikode still holds the mantle of producing qualified teachers, implementing a generous input towards enhancing education in Kerala and other part of the country.
