Government College, Sri Muktsar Sahib: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

Sri Muktsar Sahib’s Government College is a coeducational college that was founded in 1951 and which lies in the region of Punjab, India. This affiliated college is located in a 40-acre campus offers variety of programmes in academic sphere. The college currently has 2,127 students of which, 59% are male students and 41% are female students. The institute offers 11 courses in eight degree programmes, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Government College, Sri Muktsar Sahib does have well qualified 41 faculty members with focusing on delivering quality education in multi-disciplinary fields of Arts, Science, Commerce & Computer Application streams.

It is therefore the desire of Sri Muktsar Sahib’s Government College to offer a broad educational platform for its students. It provides a good library, students can work or study with a number of books and other educational materials. Students who have a penchant for sports and other health related activities, the college has sports grounds and gymnasium. The college appreciates the role of technology in today’s society and has adopted great information technology facilities for the benefit of every learner. Further, still, the said institution avails functional laboratory facilities for practical undertakings in various courses offered in the establishment. 

For the purposes of creating a strong and responsible alumni base, the college has launched an active alumni association. To meet the students’ relaxation and transport needs the campus comprises a cafeteria and transport facilities respectively. The location of classrooms are culturally arranged to complement this ambient learning environment. Apart from academics, the college supports extra co-curricular activities such as games, N.S.S etc to ensure that the student has grown all round. Being conscious of the demand for early career planning, the college has setup a Training and Placement Cell to guide the students.

The courses under taken by the Government College, Sri Muktsar Sahib are totalled at 11 courses which include undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The programmes comprise full-time programmes of different areas of specialisation. Some of the well offered courses at the undergraduate level include; BA, B.Sc (Medical and Non-Medical), B.Com, BBA, B.Sc Agriculture and BCA. Graduate courses are MA in Economics and Political Science, M.Sc in Mathematics and a post graduate diploma in computer application (PGDCA). The approved intake in all the existing courses is 1,140 students, which shows that the college has the potential to handle many students. During the academic year that just ended, the enrolment of the college was 2,127 students which points out that the college is indeed very chosen and wanted.

At Government College, Sri Muktsar Sahib the major requirement for admission is based on merit which provide chance to those talented students who requires the particular programmes to be study. In most courses, each candidate’s admission is given according to academic performance demonstrated in their qualifying examinations. According to the M.Sc Mathematics programme, it fully states that “Admission will be strictly on merit.” Although the college doesn’t mention preferred entrance exams, entrance tests of the state or conducted by the university for some courses are often used by the colleges affiliated to Punjab University. The college awards scholarships to enable deserving students pursue their education. In the 2022 academic year, a significant number of students received financial reimbursements: Of the students there, 860 among 1,956 students in three-year UG Courses, 7 of 53 in four-year UG courses,, 1 of 14 in one-year PG courses, and 8 of 104 in two-year PG courses benefited from these scholarships. This clearly shows that the college is serious about issue.
