Government Degree College Boys, Baramulla was established in 1943 in Khwaja- Bagh, Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. Primarily being an affiliated college which is located in a very vast area of 30 acres this educational institute has contributed a lot in the field of higher education in the concerned the region for more than seven decades. NCAA accredited college offering 22 different courses on eight degree programmes to the 2,840 total students. The faculty comprises of 39 highly qualified and committed teachers, offering a reasonable student teacher ratio in order to ensure healthy student teacher interaction as well as quality teaching.

The library of the school has a good sum of 46, 000 texts and 12, 000 reference books, which should make the students’ academic experience more than adequate. Government Degree College Boys, Baramulla provides available programmes that include undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The college offers a total of 22 full- time programmes right from the Under Graduate level covering major areas like B.Sc, BCA, BBA, B.Com, MCA and M.Sc Mathematics at the Post Graduate level. The overall student enrollment in all courses offered conducts to an overall headcount of 2,840 students, and hence depicts how this institution has enhanced the training of half-baked students in this part of the world. There is no specific data on graduating over the latest year, however, such statistics cannot be regarded as a proof indicating that the college turns out poorly educated graduates, as it has been known for many years.

As we have mentioned the admission process of the Government Degree College Boys, Baramulla is different for different courses. Most of the undergraduate programmes such as BA, B. Sc, etc admit students based on their performance. But for specialised courses as BCA the admissions are made on the basis of scores obtained in Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The BBA programme is governed by rules and regulation formulated by University of Kashmir and also by administering an entrance test. This integrated course of MCA calls for candidates to pass an aptitude test conducted by the Kashmir University for the admission of postgraduate candidates. However, seeing that Government Degree College Boys, Baramulla is an institution of considerable repute that was established a few decades back it would not be surprising to learn that it has produced quite a number of achievers in different fields even though the names of these achievers are nowhere to be found at the time of writing this report.
