Government Degree College, Kamalpur, started in 1987 as an affiliated college located at Dhalai Tripura. The institution which is spread over a 36.1 hectare compound provides thirteen courses offered in four degree programmes. With a total enrolment of 1,586 students, the college maintains a balanced gender ratio of 1:1, of which 811 students were male and 817 female. NAAC accredited college with specialisms on undergraduate programmes. The college has a faculty of 10 members with specialisation in Arts and science and offers rich education to the needful region.

Government Degree College, Kamalpur, provides a great variety of impressive facilities that facilitate the process of students’ learning. An open access automated central library has more than 13000 books, and the institution subscribes three journals to support the academic activities of the students. For usable recreational activities the college provides wide area of play field for football, cricket etc and Indoor sports facility. 

The campus has now seven audio-video classrooms (smart classrooms) under the RUSA &NME-ICT schemes of MHRD faculties thus improving its learning. Also, there is a language lab for 11 students which is obligatory for practice with microphones and headsets to enhance students’ soft skills especially speaking English. Other facilities include a 30 seated ST Boys Hostel, a gymnasium, an auditorium with a seating capacity of seven hundred and a canteen for staff and students.

There are 13 programmes and all the programmes offered by Government Degree College, Kamalpur, are only for full-time. The college offers both honour and ordinary degree in arts and science programmes. In this college the different course offered by the college are BA Political Science Hons, B.Sc, B.Sc Mathematics Hons, BA, BA History Hons.
