Government Degree College, Kupwara, Commenced in 1988, is an affiliated college in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The institute has been affiliated to the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and offers under graduate programmes in different streams. Located in a campus of 20.25 acres, the college presently has 2,822 students on rolls and has 16 teachers on its faculty. The institute offers four undergraduate degrees : BA, B.Sc, BCA and B.Com that are all offered as full time programmes. The vision of the Government Degree College, Kupwara is to ensure quality education and make the student hem ready for facing various challenges in their respective career.

Government Degree College, Kupwara has adequate amenities that can be used by students in their class work and or co-curricular activities. It has a fitted library stocked with text books, reference books among others for the different needs of the various students’ disciplines. The institute also has nine specific laboratories for areas of medical science, non-medical science, social science, psychology, geography and computer application. These labs are equipped with basic learning tools to ensure that practical classes can be effectively taught. For extra curricular activities and events the college has an auditorium for conducting seminar, cultural programmes and other related functions. This building also features restaurant facilities as a break area for students and the staff members as well. 

Having a health centre with first aid needs of the college community addressed. The practicum revealed that the college infrastructure fosters modern approaches towards learning, having equipped PC’s that improve student’s computer literacy in computer resource laboratories. Sports educations include areas meant for those students wishing to participate in sports activities and games. Further, the college provide and also has different hostels for both sexes for students who wish to stay in the college hostels.

Government Degree College, Kupwara has four courses that are all of full time in nature. These are the coursing offered by the university which are as follows: Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com). These programmes all take three years to complete. The intake capacity of total number of students in the college is as such – 2,822 across all courses which proves that the college has a vision to impart the facilities of higher education to a large number of learners in the region.

The process of admitting students at Government Degree College, Kupwara was followed in a very standard and merit basis manner. Particularities related to the admission process are not disclosed although it is normal for such affiliated colleges to function according to the regulations of the corresponding university.  It is found that the college provides admissions to its sundry undergraduate courses and presumably admits students on the basis of the performance of the students in the 10+2 or equivalent examination.
