The Government Degree College Sumbal also known as GDC Sumbal is recognized college situated in Sonawari, District of Jammu and Kashmir which was started in 2010. This affiliated college has been offering great improvement in higher education and is based at a beautiful campus of 5 acres. The GDC Sumbal has, in the total, 3137 students and 23 teachers The University offers 26 courses in 6 programmes. The college has attained recognition by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to trademark its quality education provision. In essence, GDC Sumbal features a rich variety of academic disciplines and programmes to enroll all kinds of learners pursuing various careers.

In this context, the college has an unmatched list of facilities that are aimed to facilitate the learning processes as well as personal development of the students. Science stream subjects are Electronics, Geography, Physics, Zoology and Botany have well equipped laboratory for carrying out practical. IT facilities of the college are exceptional: there are 2 contemporary computer laboratories equipped with up-to-date desktops with Windows and Linux interfaces. 

Accompanying the classic books in the library are over 9500 modern texts for students and teachers to benefit from. The construction of new three floor library complex under construction will contribute to expanding of these facilities. For athletes for physical fitness training the institution has a section for male and female students that has modern equipment for training. The college also lays much emphasis on sports; having play fields for outdoor games like football, cricket, volleyball etc and Indoor Games facilities like TT and chess in its own Indoor Sports Block.

The academic needs of GDC Sumbal are diverse and colorful as they provide 26 courses on the ground of academic curriculum. These include the conventional four-year undergraduate programs such as BA and B.Sc., and other specific fields such as B. Sc. in Botany, Zoology, Chemistry and Computer Applications, and BA in Economics, English Literature & Political Science etc. The college also has courses of its kinds, such as Clinical Biochemistry and Indian Music, especially for students who have a bleach for those types of programmes. All classes are day classes and are meant to give the learner a full education in his or her area of specialisation. Although the specific intake for every course is not available, the total number of intakes for all programmes are 3137 which shows the college’s immense potential to train young talents.

GDC Sumbal operates under the conventional admission policies prevalent in many Pakistani universities with the test conducted as the Common University Entrance Test Programme- Under Graduate (CUET UG). The above procedure also works to make student selection a fair and merit based system. For most of the undergraduate programmes, the college uses CUET UG scores and therefore caters for student from different parts of the country. 

As much as we cannot find explicit information about scholarships available for applying for the college, being a government college the university probably provides various types of financial aids to help deserving students’.
