Government First Grade College located in kalaghatagi was started in 2007 and it is affiliated college situated in Dastikoppa, Dharwad, Karnataka. This is a university that aspires to offer student’s education in the region as per their desired quality. Affiliated with the NAAC, it follows accreditation programme to ensure excellence in its standards. Located on a 1 acre land area, the college is admitted with a total of 597 students and faculty composed only of ten devoted teachers. As it is seen, the college presently retains 3 different courses in 3 different degree programmes addressing different academia and career needs.

Government First Grade College boasts of having provided a number of facilities to complete the learning process of its students. The library which serves as a fundamental academic base is well aired and accommodation have been provided for students. This library contains 9,723 books, 15 journals and magazines, 5 daily newspapers, an employment newspaper and 17 compact discs associated with books. There is so much information available that is within this easy reach with the students and teachers easy able to exercise research and independent learning. The college also boasts of having departmental laboratories through which student are offered practical exercises within their field of specialisation. The institution appreciates technology in the current society and has provided for excellent learning technology, in other words IT.

The Government First Grade College, Kalaghatagi is offering 3 full-time courses across fields. These are the BA programmes including History political Science Sociology Economics and Optional Kannada With Different group combinations. For the commerce savvy students the college provides a commerce course that is a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com). For science inclined students there is the opportunity to take the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science. All these programmes take three years to complete and are geared towards imparting on students strong foundational knowledge in their courses of specialisation. Unfortunately, there is no definite intake capacity on individual courses; however, the total intake of the overall programmes offered is 597, which is also the present enrollment.

Government First Grade College, Kalaghatagi has a very simple procedure for admission which any student is able to follow. The details of the admission process are however not described in specifics but it can be inferred that for admission into most government colleges in Karnataka the marks that a candidate got in his or her qualifying examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination are considered. Perhaps the college uses entrance scores or grades and possibly reserves for the less fortunate as per the government’s policies.
