Government First Grade College, Shikaripura or GFGC Shikaripura is one of the known colleges situated in Shikaripura of Karnataka. This affiliated college was established in 1980, and therefore, it has been in operation for more than 40 years. GFGC Shikaripura is located in a infrastructural campus of 18.5 acres where the college provides number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses to the students. Currently the college is accredited with National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), this is in line with the colleges quest to offer quality education. The institution is overall enrolling 2,243 students and it has 26 teachers which make good student-teacher ratio. GFGC Shikaripura has made available fifteen (15) courses in seven degree programmes with an intention to cover different areas of specialisation to suit every students’ choice of field.

Government First Grade College has an ample number of amenities that can improve the academic process and students’ personal growth. The core of these complex is a three-story library building For the moment its stock on the first floor comprises 38 753 books, 19 journals and 15 magazines. This facility has modern facilities, which include the provision of computers and use of an advance library system through which students can easily access various online resources through such networks as INFLIBNET among others. Sport lovers will be able to put their talent to practise in different colleges while the respective college will be encouraging every sport activity among the students. It boasts of success in wrestling, athletics as well as cricket at universities, state and national levels by its students. GFGC Shikaripura ensures to fulfil the need of the digital age of learning by providing outstanding IT amenities and Wi-Fi services all around the campus.

The academic programme offered at GFGC Shikaripura is described with considerable detail to meet the students’ needs. Out of the total number of courses dispensed, 15 courses are being offered, 13 for the undergraduate students and 2 for the post graduate students. The programmes are spread out across the various fields of studies including; Arts, Commerce, Sciences and Computer Applications. The most sought courses are like; History with combinations, BBA, BCA, B.Com, B.Sc in Physics ,Chemistry, Math/Computer Science. However, to satiate the aspiring learners it foray into MA in Economics and MA in Kannada. Every course offered here is a full course of study, thus students are offered a full and intense training in the chosen disciplines. In the academic year 2022 the total students’ enrolment was 2,243 includes 2,193 students in under graduate courses & 50 in post graduate courses.

The admission process at GFGC Shikaripura is simplified in the sense that the College accepts all students with merit regardless of their background. The college admits students through a clear process most likely on the basis of performance in qualifying tests.  University financial commitment to support was further exemplified by the fact that all the 2193 first year and other undergraduate students as well as all the 50 postgraduate students had received some form of fee remission or scholarship in the academic year 2022.
