The Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, Salem (GMKMC Salem) was started in the year 1986. It is affiliated to the Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University in Chennai. It is recognised by the National Medical Commission(NMC) and provides many medical courses. Over a 150 acre plot of land, the college has well equipped infrastructural amenities facilitating education to its 1088 students. The college has 323 faculties which provide the college with a favourable student teacher ratio in its 25 courses offerings in 5 degree programmes.
Some of the facilities available in this college are meant to improve the learning and overall development of the students. The campus also comprises two hostels for boys and girls respectively to facilitate comfortable stay for out-station students. A resourceful library is an ideal facility for the stock of medical literature and research information for use by the medical fraternity. It also possesses scientific and technological laboratories of the new generation as well as a college health centre with first aid. For the physical fitness and recreational purpose, GMKMC Salem is equipped with a gymnasium and various other sports equipment. They utilise good IT facilities in the campus regarding the e-learning needs. There is a canteen to meet the students and the staff’s nutritional requirements, an auditorium as students’ performance, and other cultural activities take place. The college also has an active alumni association in place meaning that there is great interaction between past and present students.
GMKMC has undergraduate, postgraduate, and super specialty medical courses. The college offers 25 full time courses offered where specialisation is done in medical field. The flagship MBBS programme has admissions for one hundred students every academic year. Other postgraduate courses are the MD and MS courses in fields such as General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The college also has certain super-specialty courses such as M.Ch in Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery and DM in Nephrology, Cardiology, Neurology and so on.
The admission process of GMKMC Salem is merit based and a common procedure followed in the college is followed. Admission to the MBBS programme is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Universal Grading System also known as NEET UG. NEET-PG is also applied for admission to MD and MS courses to postgraduate level of education. For super-specialty courses DM and M.Ch, the candidates are needed to pass the NEET-SS exam. The college complies with the government regulation on reservation policies which allows students from different categories.

4. Pay the fees and submit the required documents if selected for a seat.
For MD/MS courses:

3. Apply for counseling at the Tamil Nadu state level or take part in the All India Quota counseling.

For DM/M.Ch programs:
1. Enroll and take NEET-SS.
2. Clear NEET-SS with the cut-off marks specified.
3. Go through the centralized counseling procedure conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
4. Appear for document verification if shortlisted.
5. Pay the mandatory fees and follow the admission process if assigned a seat.
Degree wise Admission Process
MBBS: Admission to the MBBS course at GMKMC Salem is through the performance of the candidate in NEET-UG. The intake of the college for the MBBS course is approved at 100 seats. Candidates should have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and pass in NEET-UG to be eligible.
MD/MS: GMKMC Salem has several MD and MS courses such as General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesiology, Paediatrics, Pathology, Psychiatry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Emergency Medicine, Radio Diagnosis, Forensic Medicine, ENT, and Ophthalmology. Admissions to the courses depend on NEET-PG marks. Seats are few or many for each specialty, ranging from 2 to 16.
DM/M.Ch: Super-specialty programs like DM in Medical Gastroenterology, Neurology, Cardiology, and Nephrology and M.Ch in Urology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Paediatric Surgery, and Neurosurgery are offered by the college. All these courses have admissions through NEET-SS, with most of the courses having 2 seats per course.

One of the good government colleges among salem it is not at all maintained properly, but I am okay with the course and academics over here, I will suggest this college mainly for well versed course in it.
