Government Mohindra College, Patiala, founded in 1875, is named after Maharaja Mahendra Singh of Patiala. The college received a commemorative postage stamp from the Government of India in 1988 and has been recognised for its excellence in higher education. Mohindra College Patiala achieved an "A" Grade with a CGPA of 3.86 in the cycle-II assessment. 

It is affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh and is recognised as a "College with Potential for Excellence" by UGC and as a star college in Life Sciences by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. It offers a range of academic programmes at the UG and PG levels in streams like Arts, Humanities, Law, Computer Applications, IT and Commerce, Sciences and others. Govt Mohindra College offers courses in the branches of science, English, economics, biotechnology, geography, political science, general management chemistry and many more. It offers multiple degrees like B.A, B.Sc, BCJ, BA LLB, PGD, M.Sc, BBA and many more. Admissions at Government Mohindra College Patiala are purely merit-based and undergraduate students need to have a 10+2 mark sheet whereas postgraduate applicants need to have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
