Government Polytechnic College Balaghat, being one of the oldest in the locality. The institute prides itself in offering diplomas in various branches of engineering approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE.  Admissions in Government Polytechnic College Balaghat are based on the Madhya Pradesh Pre Polytechnic Test (MP PPT) conducted by the Department of Technical Education of Madhya Pradesh. This entrance examination is mainly for the admissions to all diploma courses of the college, and the MP PPT occurs every year. Diploma in Civil Engineering: Admission to this program is based on the candidate's performance in the MP PPT. The course has an approved intake of 60 students, and candidates are required to appear for the Pre-Polytechnic Test (PPT) conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Technical Education Department.

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering: Entrance for this diploma course is similarly based on the performance in the MP PPT test. This course has an approved intake of 60 students. Candidates are required to appear for the Pre-polytechnic Test (PPT) conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Technical Education Department.

Diploma in Electrical Engineering: This diploma is similarly admitted via the above-mentioned test. This diploma has an approved intake of 60 students. Candidates must appear for the MP PPT conducted by the Technical Education Department.

Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering: The admission process in this regard is just as MP PPT-based. The approved intake is 60 candidates, and candidates must appear for the Pre-Polytechnic Test (MP PPT).
