Government Polytechnic College Rohru is a technical college in the year 1985, located in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh. This affiliated college of the University which enjoys the recognition of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is committed to impart quality technical education. GPC Rohru established in the campus of 3.6 acres having six diploma courses covering all the engineering fields. The college takes a total of 218 students for all its classes, while the faculty members work are 14; therefore, the college student-teacher ratio is reasonable. Through its offer of various specialisations that it offers, the institute shows commitment of technical education, namely Electronics & Communication engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer engineering- Internet of Things Engineering.

While Government Polytechnic College Rohru has developed a wide range of facilities that will facilitate better learning among students. The college also offers hostel facility for both boys and girls out-station students to make them feel comfortable to stay in our hostels. The modern library contains the most recent magazines, periodicals, and reference books well stocked to accommodate the academic requirements. The campus boasts of state of the art laboratories , some of them include Consumer Electronics Laboratory, Communication Laboratory, Power Electronics Laboratory, Digital Electronics Laboratory among others. In additional, students will be able to use college sports equipments, computerised equipment in information technology and a cafeteria. The institution has a first aid section, and also has a gym to ensure that everyone exercises. Further, the possession of Wi-Fi capability on the campus was deemed fit in enabling such students connect to the internet and access a variety of resources on the internet.

Over all The institute provides 6 diploma courses, out of which all are full time. These are four main courses for the award of diploma and two, lateral entry programmes. The college has a total of 218 admissions approved for all of its programmes. The diploma courses offered are arranged in different engineering specialities which give the students the variety of options where they can continue their technical education.

The admission to the Government Polytechnic College Rohru is governed by the result of Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) conducted by Himachal Pradesh Takniki Shiksha Board (HPTSB), Dharamsala. In most of the engineering diploma courses such as Electronics and Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering etc.. PAT score is mandatory. The Diploma programme in Computer Engineering and Internet of Things also covers students performing a minimum mark of 35% in their 10th standard examination. 

The D.Pharma course offers admission to the students with merit. Lateral entry are possible in Electronics and Communication Engineering and Civil Engineering with PAT scores. Although it is impossible to obtain basic information about scholarships directly from the college, there are probably rules for providing such assistance to learners according to the government standards.
