Government Polytechnic, Joshimath was established in the year 2014 as an affiliated college. It is located in Dhak, Chamoli, Uttarakhand. The Sanction for the said technical institute was obtained from the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and the institute offers Diploma Programs in Engineering Disciplines. The present student enrollment is 23, whereas the faculty strength is 3 at the institute, hence providing an ideal learning atmosphere.

The institute works earnestly for the all-round educational experience for the learners. It is well-endowed with all types of facilities meant to enhance the learning process and student experience as a whole. It acts as an information center with varied resources provided in the college library for the students to imbibe knowledge. Also, so as to bring practical application of theoretical knowledge, the institute provides for departmental laboratories. Auditorium is used for events and seminars, making the institute the hub of a dynamic academic environment. The institute also believes in the saying 'A healthy mind exists in a healthy body', hence sports facilities are open to all students.

Presently, Government Polytechnic, Joshimath is running two full-time diploma courses of three years duration each. While the Diploma in Electrical Engineering offers an approved intake of 48 seats, the Diploma in Civil and Environmental Engineering offers 30. These courses, by design, would provide students with technical knowledge and practical skills in their respective areas.

The Government Polytechnic, Joshimath admits students mainly through the Uttarakhand JEEP. The Entrance Test conducted by the Board of Technical Education opens up the opportunity to aspirants for admission in various diploma courses provided by this college. It assesses the aptitude and potential in the subjects at the JEEP examination, hence admitting only the most meritorious among the candidates.
