Government Polytechnic, Mahasamund was established in the year 2007 and it is a major technical institution in Baronda Bazar, Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh. It is an affiliated college approved by AICTE to deliver a series of diploma courses in the fields of engineering disciplines. The institute has an enrolment of 267 students with a faculty strength of 18 students. The polytechnic offers four full-time diploma courses, each for three years, on civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.

It boasts of many facilities available for students' enrichment. The Government Polytechnic has well-equipped libraries, departmental laboratories for hands-on learning, sports facilities for physical development, and a boys' hostel that accommodates students when needed. Other facilities include a canteen, guest rooms for the visitors, and state-of-the-art IT infrastructure providing digital learning facilities.

Government Polytechnic, Mahasamund offers four diploma courses, all as full-time programs. These programs will equip the students with practical knowledge along with theoretical education leading them to entry-level employment in the field chosen. 

The admission process of Government Polytechnic, Mahasamund is mainly designed based on the Chhattisgarh Pre Polytechnic Test (CG PPT). Thus, the entrance test acts as a gateway for prospective students to gain a place in the institute's diploma courses.
