The Grace College of Education started in 2008 is one of the leading teacher education institution pioneered at Kanyakumari district in the state of Tamil Nadu. This college for both boys and girls with a vision to build up the prospective teachers is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University. Stretched over approximately 01.52 acres, the college has received accreditation from the National Council for Teacher Education [NCTE], to maintain the quality standard in teacher education.
It has various contemporary structures which are equipped to improve the training and learning that the students undergo in Grace College of Education. An important academic facility, the library holds a current collection of over 6,500 books as well as national and international magazines and journals. It also has a digital portion with internet to enhance efficient retrieval by students of information required for their work and assignments. This college today offers but one programme and it is Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) as highlighted here. This is a full time course with an approved population intake capacity of one hundred students per year, and takes two years to complete. The general objective of the B.Ed programme proposed is to produce professional teachers who are well equipped to teach effectively in our schools. As this college targets this specialised programme, it provides students with an all rounded education that prepares them to handle any course offered in college.
The process of admission at Grace College of Education is very simple, quitting on the merit basis. Prospective students must have completed any undergraduate degree with specific mark requirements: Table 5 indicates that for an Open Category, 50 percent were filling the quota, followed by 45 percent for Backward Classes, 43 percent for the Most Backward Classes, and 40 percent for the Scheduled Castes. It means that the selection is made after conducting an interview and the scores given in the qualifying examination. The above process help the college to enroll students who are qualified academically and those with the potential of teaching.
