Guru Teg Bahadur College of Education, Sangrur, started in 2005, is one of the pioneer institutes for preparing teachers in the Punjab, India. This co-educational college situated on Lehra –Moonak Road at Lehal Khurd, distt. and is spread in the area of 5.5 acres. It is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). With a total enrolment of 426 students and a faculty strength of 11, the college offers two full-time courses, B.Ed and M.Ed. Guru Teg Bahadur College of Education has been established with a view to producing quality teachers for the future needs.
Some of the numerous amenities at Guru Teg Bahadur College of Education are meant to support the learning process of the students. The college possesses a library which contains book shelf of more than 70000 containing titles of eminent Indian and foreign writers besides references, encyclopedia and dictionaries. The use of library is recommended frequently for students within their daily programme of study. The college has well stocked science laboratory and social studies with models, apparatus, map, globe etc. Regarding students’ welfare, there is an on-campus dispensary manned by a medical officer. Guru Teg Bahadur College of Education offers two primary courses, undergraduate B.Ed course and postgraduate M.Ed. They are both full time programmes and take two years to complete. The over all intake capacity of B.Ed programme is sanctioned for 200 and M.Ed programme is sanctioned for 50 seats. These courses are intended to prepare students to meet the challenges of becoming effective teachers and education leaders. The intake capacity of this college is 426 students that it takes per year with proper student-teacher ratio.
At Guru Teg Bahadur College of Education, there is difference in the admission criteria for each of the two programmes that it offers. For the B.Ed course, the selection of students is merit based on the percentage of marks secured in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination as per with the policy of the State Government/U.T. Administration and the University. The M.Ed programme, on the other hand, has students based on merit score in the entrance test conducted in Punjabi University, Patiala. The college offers hostel accommodation for boys and girls with neat and spacious rooms that are double occupied. Other facilities like washing, electrical repairs and even medical services are also provided. The college has an Alumni Association that helps current students and other graduates to interact. The institution also actively lays down different social and other curricular and non curricular programmes with a view of developing the all round personality of the students and to improve their power of expression.
