Located in Kolkata, West Bengal, the Gurudas College was established in the year 1956 and is one of the premier institutions. The college occupies a small area of 2 acres, yet offers its students a wide range of courses to pursue at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The institution offers a large array of subjects in Arts, Science, and Commerce, including Honours and General Degrees. Some of the notable courses include BA Hons in Bengali, English, History, Economics; B.Sc. Hons in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology; and B.Com. Hons. in Accounting and Finance. The college also offers BA Hons in Journalism and Mass Communication and a B.Sc Hons in Microbiology and Biochemistry under self-financing schemes. At the postgraduate level, MA in Bengali and M.Sc in Physics and Zoology are offered.

Gurudas College admits students based on their merits so that meritorious students can study their preferred courses. Admission is generally made based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examinations at the undergraduate level, that is, 10+2 or its equivalent. The college invites admission according to norms prescribed by the affiliating university. In the case of postgraduate courses, like MA in Bengali, admission will be made based on the merit list prepared from the applications received.
