About Haldia Institute of Health Sciences, Haldia

Established in the year 2003, Haldia Institute of Health Sciences is one of the top health education institutes in Haldia, West Bengal. The college is affiliated and offers education in 15 courses in 7 different degree courses under the healthcare sector. HIHS boasts of a faculty strength of 22 members dedicated towards the cause of fostering the healthcare leaders of the future. Well-equipped for academic learning and practice in health sciences, the institute is situated in the ICARE Complex campus.

Haldia Institute of Health Sciences has very good infrastructures in terms of facilities that could add to the knowledge of its students. Off-campus hostels have been segregated for boys and girls with an intake capacity of 70 students in each, well managed to offer comfortable living and safety through 24-hour security. Vast 1600 sq. ft. well-equipped laboratory with modern amenities for hands-on training to students of both BMLT and BPT. The Institute has its own OPD clinic being run by the Department of Physiotherapy, which provides practical exposure in patient care to students. A well-maintained fitness centre in the multipurpose hall of the sports complex promotes physical fitness. Equipped with various kinds of exercise equipment and classes on kickboxing, yoga, and aerobics, it helps students in keeping fit.

There are different programmes available which cover all areas of health-care education. This existing structure of the institution consists of 15 courses which include the following full-time undergraduate courses: Bachelor of Physiotherapy, BMLT, B.Sc. Nutrition (Hons.), B.Sc. Physician Assistant, B.Sc. Critical Care Technology and B.Sc.

The admission criteria to HIHS changes with the course. Courses like BPT, there are 20% seats under State/ Govt. quota while 80% are under the Management quota. Degree wise Admission Process

BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy): Admission is made through the West Bengal Joint Entrance (JENPAUH) Examination. The institute provides 40 seats for this course.

BMLT (Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology): Admission is made through an entrance exam held by the institute. HIHS provides 65 seats for this course.

B.Sc Nutrition (Hons): Admission is made according to University norms. The institute has 35 seats for this course.

B.Sc Physician Assistant: Admission is conducted through the West Bengal Joint Entrance (JENPAUH) Examination. 24 seats are offered in this course by the institute.

B.Sc Critical Care Technology: 25 seats are provided for this course by the institute. Admission would presumably be through the JENPAUH exam, like for other allied health science courses.

B.Sc Operation Theatre Technology: HIHS has 25 seats available for this course. Admissions would also be as usual for allied health science courses.

B.Sc Radiology and Imaging Technology: Admission is based on JENPAS-UG organized by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB).

MPT (Master of Physiotherapy) in Orthopedics and Neurology: 20% of seats are reserved under State/Government quota and 80% under Management quota for both specializations. Admission is based on an entrance test organized by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS). Both specializations have 3 seats available.

M.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology (Microbiology and Biochemistry): Admission is done through an entrance examination organized by the University. 6 seats are provided in every specialization.

MHA (Master of Hospital Administration): Admission is done through an entrance examination organized by the University. The institute provides 16 seats for this course.
