About Harish Chandra Research Institute, Prayagraj
Harish Chandra Research Institute (HRI), is an esteemed research organisation set up in 1975, and is located in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI Mumbai) is the parent organisation of HRI, and it has come up with a great reputation in issues related to mathematics and physics. Located on 66 acre area, this government institute aims at providing best academic education and research facility. At the time of enroling 78 students and having 21 faculty members, HRI provides students and faculty, personal attention and direct interaction.
Harish Chandra Research Institute offers four specific programmes: two master’s programmes and two doctoral ones, all in physics and mathematics. HRI has a very well-equipped infrastructure that can be used for the sake of academic activity as well as students’ comfort. As for the library of the institute, it is a treasure house of knowledge Millions of books and periodicals are available there and it is more specialised in/mathematical and physical sciences. Sophisticated laboratories enable approaches to the practical work and new research projects for students. Perhaps the most striking element is Information Technology where we find conducive work stations designed for that purpose and a special cluster computing facility for computational research. The school’s co-curricular development, HI provides extra-curricular facilities like a playground and a well-developed gymnasium for physical activities and an auditorium that doubles up as a theater and hall for seminars and other academic purposes. The campus also contains a health centre , cafeteria and guests’ rooms to guarantee the comfort of all campus internally inhabitants which also include guests.
The academic programmes of HRI are selective with major emphasis on post graduate levels in physics and mathematics. The institute offers four full-time courses: Courses offered are M.Sc. Physics, M.Sc. Mathematics, Ph.D. Physics, and Ph.D. Mathematics. Master’s programmes take two years to complete and the doctoral ones take six years to complete with ample time for research and study. These programmes are developed for preparation of young talents of the future generation to contribute to the society by producing qualified scientists and researchers.
The institute offers admission for various courses on merit and the competition for the admission is very tough. Master’s and doctoral aspirants have to qualify the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST), a national level test to gauge their prowess in Physics and Mathematics.
