HCN Dehradun: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

The Himalayan College of Nursing is quite a famous place to pursue nursing education. This constituent college had its inception in the year 2006. It is situated at Swami Ram Nagar, near Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The wide area of 2.11 acres has been approved by the Indian Nursing Council to maintain high-quality educational standards in the courses offered. The Nursing programs at HCN Dehradun include 9 diverse courses under 3 degrees for the undergraduate and postgraduate in Nursing. The student enrollment is as high as 594, with a faculty strength of 18 in the college, maintaining a very decent student-to-teacher ratio.

Himalayan College of Nursing is committed to provide its students the best of facilities and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Separate halls of residence are created for boys and girls who are out of station, to provide convenient access to them. The college has built its library at a centralised level for knowledge gathering, and IT infrastructure is in place for modern learning ideas. Specialised and well-equipped laboratories are present to develop the required practical skills which in essence are an important part of nursing training. For overall development, the HCN Dehradun campus also has sports and gym facilities. The in-house medical center and cafeteria fulfills the health and dietary demands of the students. An auditorium hosts many of the events and seminars that are a part of college and campus activity. Transport facility is also provided by the college which adds on to the feasibility of mobility for the students as well as teachers.

HCN Dehradun impart several nursing courses to fulfill the requirement of competent healthcare professionals. The college offers 9 full time courses in which the specialisation are explained. At the undergraduate level, the flagship B.Sc Nursing programme, 100 seats are declared open for admissions, whereas the Post Basic B.Sc Nursing course offers 40 seats. It also comprises other postgraduate programs: M.Sc in Community Health Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, and Mental Health Nursing, in addition to Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care, whereby 5 seats are allocated towards each of the postgraduate programs as well as 15 being allocated towards both Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care and Post B. For aspirants looking to further their research, there is also an opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. program in Nursing Sciences. The process of admitting students to the Himalayan College of Nursing is undertaken in such a way that the most deserving candidates are selected. For B.Sc Nursing, the selection of candidates against the sanctioned seats will be strictly on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination according to the Indian Nursing Council.                                        

Admission Committee- For selection into the postgraduate courses in the constituent college, selection of the students is done strictly on the basis of the merit of qualifying testimonials, credentials obtained from the candidates and personal interview. M.Sc Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care has a slightly different one, being based on the merit of an entrance test and interview.
