The College of Nursing Holy Cross School of Nursing Chamarajanagar was started in 1996 and situated at Kamagere, Kollegal Taluk, Chamarajnagar District, Karnataka. This women only college is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) with an emphasis on nursing. Located in a 13 acre plot; this school admits over 112 students in its premises in toto and has 13 faculty members. Holy Cross School of Nursing provides two nursing programmes: Full time courses at different levels of nursing are General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) and Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM). The nature of the learning process being centralised around nursing, the institute offers specialised curricula and plenty of internships.
The institute offers a host of amenities that are likely to improve the learning environment, and general health of the students. The college has the installation of each departmental-based laboratory that is important for practical exercise for the nursing students. A large 3500 sq. meters of an auditorium is used for conducting seminars, cultural events and other significant functions such as the graduation ceremony, lamp lighting. The campus consists of a girls’ hostel to provide accommodation and security for student to enhance their performance. Canteen provides food requirements of all the staff members and students of the school. The associations with the 150-bed Holy Cross Hospital offering components of Medical ICU and NICU are beneficial to practice. For super specialties, the school has tie up with hospitals associated to the school. Other facilities are IT related infrastructures; sports complex; guest house; and transport facilities making the institute nearly an educational city.
Currently, Holy Cross School of Nursing has two fully accredited intensive nursing courses to accommodate the various levels of nursing. The course structure of the GNM programme is a four year course with an intake capacity of forty students The ANM programme being a low level nursing course is a two year course with intake capacity of thirty students. These are the most basic programmes offered in the institute since they are primarily directed at preparing professional and humane nurses. The total number of students enrolled for both programs is 70 because the institute aims at offering a favourable student/student ratio for enhanced teaching /learning.
