The Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore was started in 1972 is one of the constituent college under this university exclusively for horticulture education and research. This is a co – education institutions situated in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu that provided various courses in horticulture and related courses. The intakes for the institute are total students 203 and faculty members 25 to allow proper care of the students and offering quality education. The college offers 10 courses over 4 degree levels, offering specialised training in Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Floriculture, and Landscape Architecture to undergraduate, postgraduate, including doctoral research degree.
The institute possesses all the essential amenities for academic and research activities that are up to date. The library stands as a center of inquiry for both the students and their faculty by providing all forms of literature and information on horticulture. Modern laboratories are availed to every department and enable the practical session which is useful for horticultural course. The college has qualified Information Technology resources, which include a computer system that has a capacity of 200 computers, internet facility for information and research with world wide access for the students. For the purpose of accommodational requirement, the campus provide separated hostels for boys and girls, possessing ( including hostels dining halls. Norman Borlaug International Hostel offers student and visiting faculty accommodation to enhance the truly international atmosphere of the university.
Currently, the Horticultural College and Research Institute provides a broad spectrum of programs: 2 undergraduate programs, B.Sc Horticulture Hons and B.Tech Horticulture, 4 Post graduate programs, M.Sc Fruit Science, M.Sc Vegetable Science, M.Sc Floriculture and Landscape architecture and, M.Sc Spices, plantation, medicinal and aromatic crops and 4 Ph.D programmes in the respective fields. According to course requirements all are full time programs which aim at offering the students comprehensive information and skills on a broad spectrum of horticultural fields. A total enrollment of students a total of 203 is small enough to provide intensive knowledge deliverysince the institute aims to strike a balance between student and teachers for effective delivery of service.
