Ideal Training College in Palakkad, was set up in the year 2006 and is an acknowledged provider of teacher education in Kerala. Established in Karumanamkurussi, Palakkad, this college is spread across 4 acres of land that provide an appropriate atmosphere for learning and development. The college is officially recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and now offers a total of 197 students and has 15 skilled members of faculty. Ideal Training College focuses on two courses, B.ED – Bachelor of Education and D.ED – Diploma in Elementary Education, courses which help in building up the next generation professional teachers.
Ideal Training College boasts of having made available a variety of resources to improve the student’s experience. The library is equipped with relevant learning resources, helps academics and research programmes. To those students with interest on the physical aspect, special facilities on sports and gym are available to support the student’s mental and physical health as well. The campus also includes an auditorium for use during occasions such as seminars and other functions that improves the social life of the campus. Closely related to the IT aspect, particular attention is paid to the concept of educational IT technologies, so the students are familiar with all the necessary tendencies. The college has two full time courses which take two academic years to complete. Admissions are open to 100 students per B.Ed programme with an annual fee of ₹58,100. The D.El.Ed programme of the college is similar with a capacity for hundred students and annual charges of ₹45,720. Both courses are aimed at presenting a complete view of the training a teacher has to go through inclusive of the practical knowledge as well as the theoretical knowledge. Overall enrolment in both programmes is at two hundred students and in an attempt to offer quality education, class sizes need to be regulated.
Enrolment exercise in Ideal Training College follows the standards laid down by the state government and the university. For the B.Ed programme, the candidate has to produced merit in marks secured in qualifying examination and/or entrance test. Likewise, the D.El.Ed programme offers merit based admission where the marks obtained by candidate for the qualifying examination or any other selection to be held as per the norms of the state government / UT administration.
